ICE HOUSE HISTORY

 

 

 

This is the history of Ice House as we know it…

 

Many years ago, around 1920, J. Early Stauffer was a successful businessman in the Borough of Palmyra, Pennsylvania.

 

One of the businesses he operated during his career was the local ice business.  From the proceeds of his endeavors, he purchased this grand residence, built in 1925, located at 312 East Main Street, Palmyra, Pennsylvania 17078, which is now known as Ice House restaurant & grille. 

 

He sold the ice business around 1944.  Most ice businesses survived until around 1945, when refrigeration became available and the demand for block ice diminished.

 

The building that you now are enjoying is a 1925, Dutch Gambrel, professionally restored by Jeffrey L. Risser Construction, Inc. Palmyra, PA 17078. 717.838.6626.

 

The structure of the building is authentic, as are many of the elements inside of it, from the natural hard wood floors, to the doors, and the molding around the windows, doors, and floors.

 

The beauty of the building matches the type of atmosphere the owners wish your dining experience to entail.  Thank you for dining with us!
